What should I do first? In order to take online classes you have to be admitted to the school. Please contact our admissions office at 1-800-284-6317 or visit the "Future Students" portion of our website to apply online. You may apply up to one year prior to taking classes, but your application must be completed 30 days prior to your first class.
How do I register for online classes? Click on our registration page in the menu on the left. If you are already an online student, follow the instructions to register online. If you are a new student, you must live more than 120 miles from our Wake Forest campus or have special permission as detailed in our policies. You can e-mail online.support@sebts.edu and let us know your full name, student ID number and the classes in which you want to be registered.
What is the format for Southeastern Seminary's online classes? The online class experience is a combination of videos of actual classes, online interaction, individual study and group involvement. At the beginning of each semester, students receive a set of DVDs to watch. These include videos of real-time classes taught on campus at Southeastern.
Then the student will access our online professors, their assignments and further explanations through our Blackboard server. Through Blackboard, the student will submit assignments and take quizzes and tests. Professors typically post an assignment schedule detailing what should be completed during each week of the semester. Students can access professors and other students through their student e-mail.
How many hours can I take online? For a bachelor's degree, you may take up to 30 hours online. For a master's degree of 60 or more hours (M.Div., M.A.C.E, etc.), you may take up to 30 hours online. For a master's degree of 59 or fewer hours (most M.A.s) a student may take up to half the hours online.
When do online classes begin and end? You can access Southeastern's Academic Calendar by using the "Quick Links" at the top left of your browser. Online classes begin and end the same week as the Wake Forest campus. Summer semesters vary, and the dates are posted on the registration page each spring semester.
What courses are offered? We currently offer courses that apply to our undergraduate degrees, master of divinity degree or our other master's level programs. At this time, we do not offer any doctoral courses through Southeastern's online classes. You may view the current classes being offered on the registration page.
Can I earn my entire degree online? No. Southeastern Seminary's online classes are offered to allow students to begin their seminary education. To complete your education, you will need to enroll at our Wake Forest campus.
A seminary education is first of all about growing in the Lord. It is also about the challenge that comes from living beside others who have been called out, from seeing the lives and families of the faculty who teach you, and from experiencing life with those called to take their small children literally to the ends of the earth.
How much will Southeastern Seminary's online classes cost? The current fee schedule is located here: Fee Schedule. Online students pay the current on-campus tuition fee (per credit hour) and the online class fee.
I am currently a student at Southeastern's Wake Forest campus. May I enroll in online classes? Our main campus students enjoy close face-to-face interaction with professors and we want to encourage students to take full advantage of that opportunity. Students living within 120 miles of the main campus will not normally be considered for enrollment in online classes. These students, however, may petition to enroll in an online class by completing the form found in the Office of Distance Learning. The criteria for exception and instructions for completing the form may be found on the Policies page. Our goal in offering online classes is to prioritize the available seats for those who absolutely cannot attend our campus such as international missionaries and church leaders, those living outside of the southeastern United States, millitary personnel serving in active duty, and other extraordinary circumstances.
Will my scholarship(s) pay for my online classes? The KEESEE scholarship will not pay for online courses. All other scholarship questions can be answered by our student life department. You can contact them at (919) 761-2305.
Will I need broadband (high-speed) Internet? No. You must have access to a reliable Internet connection in order to participate in online discussions and tests. A reliable dial-up account is sufficient.
What software will I need for Southeastern Seminary's online classes? Online discussion and tests are administered through a Blackboard server. Blackboard supports several of the newer browsers including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. Our experience is that Mozilla Firefox works best.
Do I need any special plug-ins for my Internet browser? Some portions of Blackboard require browser plug-ins. You should download the latest media players from Adobe (formerly Macromedia) including Flash and Shockwave. Many of our professors use .pdf documents so you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Also make sure your version of Media Player is up to date.
I still have questions. Who can I contact for help? You can call Southeastern's online classes office at 1-866-816-0273 or e-mail us at online.support@sebts.edu.
