Admissions

Students interested in admission to the Southeastern Music Program should follow general admissions procedures for the school. Entering graduate music students will participate in a special week-long Music Orientation process prior to their semester of entrance to the music program. This Orientation Week will include the taking of Placement Exams in the following academic disciplines: Conducting, Vocal Pedagogy, Diatonic Theory/Harmony, Chromatic Theory/Harmony, History of Western Music I, History of Western Music II, Form and Analysis, Orchestration and Vocal/Choral Diction. Information about preparation for these exams is available from the Music Office.

Students also have the opportunity to take Advanced Standing exams in the following subject areas: Music Ministry and its Administration, Music Ministry with Children, Music Ministry with Youth and Adults, Choral Literature and Congregational Literature (Hymnody). A combination of earning an "A" or a "B" in undergraduate course work, plus the achievement of criterion score on the specific advanced standing exam, will allow a student to reduce their graduate hours required by the amount of hours for the course in question. Information about preparation for these exams is available from the Music Office.
