Doctor of Education

Accept the Challenge

Are you ready for your next academic challenge in the field of education? Do you dream about expanding your usefulness for Kingdom work?

Prepare to be sharpened for Great Commission work in your ministry, ‘as iron sharpens iron,’ by earning your terminal degree while studying with outstanding professors and students at Southeastern.

The Program

Course work is structured in a “modified residency” model that has been approved by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) and the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). This approach allows students to keep their current positions in ministry and attend classes with a cohort of educators who meet with professors during intensives on campus scheduled throughout the year.

Our current cohort consists of students from six states and careers including education and youth ministry in local churches, Christian school administration, graduate school instructor, denominational administrator, military chaplain, and writer/editor with a Baptist state newspaper.

The purpose of our program is to strengthen your leadership in your chosen field of education and expand your knowledge and skills for future opportunities in leadership, teaching at the college or graduate school level, or curriculum development.

All of this is built upon the power of God’s Word and the passion to see people come to know Christ as Savior.

Highlights

The 60-hour degree includes six hours of one-on-one mentorship with a professor who has ministry training and experience in specialized areas of study. Most students in each cohort will complete the required on-campus seminars during their first two years in the program. The final twelve hours designated for the dissertation could be completed in the third year.

A master’s degree in education or related fields from other accredited institutions will be accepted for the doctor of education program at Southeastern. Admission requires a minimum 3.25 GPA requirement in addition to an acceptable score on the MAT.
