Housing For Missionaries

Southeastern Seminary works with International Mission Board missionaries and missionary candidates to provide affordable short-term housing as they study here at Southeastern.

Statement of Conditions
People satisfying either of the two IMB categories

  • Active missionaries on stateside assignment OR
  • Missionary candidates who have returned from the field and are currently in the application process for active appointment with the IMB

may qualify to occupy missionary housing (Note:  preference will be given to students enrolled in the seminary for a minimum of eight semester hours.)

Missionary housing is provided rent-free but is reported as income on a 1099 Form for tax purposes.  Utilities are charged each month to missionaries on a flat-rate basis.  .  Assignments will be made based on availability. Requests for missionary housing can be made by email to housing@sebts.edu.    Missionaries are encouraged to make application at least one to two years in advance of their intended stateside assignment.

Occupancy of missionary housing is not to exceed two continuous semesters. Verification of IMB status will be required.

Missionary Housing (Furnished)
Southeastern has a limited number of furnished missionary apartments available. Assignment preference will be given to those who are enrolled in courses leading to a degree. Missionary apartments are completely furnished including linens, towels, kitchenware and washer and dryer.  Basic utilities included are water, sewer, electric and, in some apartments, gas.  Additional utilities included are phone, standard cable television and high speed internet.  Flat-rate utility charge is $ 330/mo.

Missionary Housing (Not Furnished)
In case there are more applicants than there are furnished missionary apartments available, unfurnished apartments can be made available. Occupants must provide all furnishings, including linens, towels, kitchenware, and washer and dryer.  Basic utilities included are water, sewer, electric and, in some apartments, gas.  Phone, standard cable television and high speed internet are not provided in these apartments.  Flat-rate utility charge is $ 200/mo.

Missionary Commuter Housing (Limited Furnishings)
Commuter housing is exempt from the minimum eight-hour requirement and, with compliance to the Statement of Conditions above, may be used by missionaries.  Examples of use include visiting family in the area, speaking engagements or stays one or two nights a week for certain semester-long classes.  Due to the limited availability and the growing number of missionaries who take short-term classes, commuter housing may not be available in some cases.  Commuter apartments have furniture, but no linens, towels, kitchenware, washer or dryer.  Phone, television and internet are not provided.
