Southeastern to host Bailey Smith Conference

In conjunction with Bailey Smith Ministries, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary will be hosting a Real Evangelism Conference October 14-16, targeted at encouraging and aiding the ministries of pastors and lay-people.

The conference will feature Smith, along with other well-known preachers, who will be speaking to and encouraging those in the ministry. Over 25 years ago, Smith established the Real Evangelism Conferences. He had a history of serving in the pastorate and in various roles within Southern Baptist life, but left to pursue evangelism full-time. Since then, his conferences have been highlighting evangelists around the country, giving them an opportunity to inspire evangelistic fervor in conference attendees. They also serve as a means for pastors, ministers and laypeople to be refreshed and renewed by hearing the word of God spoken with passion.

In 1998, Southeastern established the Bailey Smith Chair of Evangelism, funded by Smith himself to support the work of Alvin Reid, Professor of Evangelism at Southeastern.

In addition to hearing Smith preach, attendees at Southeastern's Real Evangelism Conference will have the opportunity to hear from a variety of passionate expositional preachers. (Click here to read the rest of the article.)

Certificate program gives training to lay leaders, church members in Christian Studies

In an effort to continue equipping men and women to serve the church and fulfill the Great Commission, Southeastern is offering two certificate programs in Christian Studies, targeted specifically for non-pastoral church leaders.

Both the Certificate of Christian Studies and the Advanced Certificate of Christian Studies will give church members and leaders an opportunity to grow in knowledge in the areas of theology, Old Testament, New Testament, Ethics and more.

Students can tailor their class schedule to their desired areas of learning, and they can choose between taking 12 hours to earn the Certificate or 24 hours to earn the Advanced Certificate.

Pastors encouraged to visit campus, share Southeastern story with churches

If you are looking for a way to connect your congregation to Southeastern, the Office of Alumni Development would like to encourage you to bring church members to visit Southeastern for the day.

Every Tuesday and Thursday during the semester, pastors are invited to bring a group from their churches to campus for a time of worship and preaching during chapel and sharing about Southeastern. In addition to attending chapel services, groups will be given a tour of campus and they will be treated to lunch on campus in the Hall of Presidents on campus. Visitors will also be able to interact with students, faculty members and a member of the development team, as well as ask questions during a question and answer time.

"It is our hope that through these campus visits, alumni and members of their churches will be able to experience firsthand how they take part, through the Cooperative Program, in helping Southeastern fulfill its mission to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the church and fulfill the Great Commission," said Albie Brice, director of Alumni Development.

Alumni who would like to schedule a visit for a group can call Brice at 919-761-2349 or e-mail abrice@sebts.edu.
