UPCOMING TRIPS 2009-2010

NEW TRIP!!
Chicago, Illinois
DEADLINE APPROACHING FAST

  • March 27 - April 3, 2010
  • Led by Mike Dodson
  • This trip will be worth 3 credit hours (tuition costs are waived)
  • $850 ($100 deposit due at sign-up)

The greater metro Chicago area is home to over 9 million people including approx. 2000 people groups and over 200 languages spoken. Evangelical churches claim only 5.5% of the population (only 1% SBC). Of Chicago's 50,000+ college students, nearly 98% are unengaged by any evangelical presence. With the help of field partners and church planters in Chicago, students will engage in witnessing, service projects, and various other ministry opportunities through a variety of ministry settings and cultural dynamics. For more information, contact Sarah McCartney (smccartney@sebts.edu) or Mike Dodson (mdodson@sebts.edu).

East Asia

  • This trip will be worth 6 credit hours (tuition costs are waived for 3 of those hours)
  • $3,200 ($300 deposit due at sign-up)

Dr. Ashford would like to invite you to take a mission trip with him to East Asia. This six credit hour trip is designed to be "half on your seat, half on your feet." In the mornings, Dr. Ashford will teach you about Buddhism and Folk Religion. In the afternoon, you will do ethnographic interviews with those whom you meet in the city. In the process of doing the interviews, you will make friendships and learn to share the gospel in an East Asian context. We pray that we will see many of these folks come to Christ, and maybe even see the first seeds of a church plant as a result of our witness. In addition, we'll have a chance to hang out and will have a lot of fun! Greg Mathias, associate director of the CGCS, will co-lead the trip with Dr. Ashford. Contact Sarah McCartney (smccartney@sebts.edu) for further information.

Travel Tips

1. Prayer… Bathe any and every trip in prayer.

2. Make copies of your passport details, insurance policy, visas and credit card numbers. Carry one copy in a separate place to the originals and leave a copy with someone at home.

3. Make sure your passport has at least six months validity and carry additional copies of your passport photo with you in case you need a replacement passport while overseas.

4. Keep your passport and money on your person not in separate or unsecured bag while overseas.

5. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with someone at home and keep in regular contact with friends and relatives while overseas.

6. Check with health professionals for information on recommended vaccinations or other precautions and find out about overseas laws on traveling with medicines.

7. Google your destination and explore country and cultural facts. You may also want to pick up a travel guide for your destination.

8. Pack smart and light.  Check the airline website to know the allowable weight and pieces of luggage.  Don’t pack more than you can reasonably carry for up to a mile.

9. Don’t wear ostentatious jewelry or other conspicuous items.  Be discreet with money, credit cards, and electronic items.  These things make you an easy target for crime.

10. Be prepared for your body to be out-of-whack and for potential inconveniences.  Nothing is guaranteed in overseas travel!
