With our confession in mind, Southeastern’s faculty attempts to develop five Core Competencies in students through a Southeastern education. Every student should seek to develop in…
Spiritual Formation Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue an authentically Christian way of life, manifested by trust in God, obedience to Christ’s commands, and love of God and neighbor.
Biblical Exposition Demonstrate the ability to properly and effectively interpret, apply, and communicate the Scriptures.
Theological Integration Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply the doctrines of Christianity to life and ministry.
Ministry Preparation Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and Christian disposition necessary for ministry and leadership in the church and the world.
Critical Thinking and Communication Demonstrate the ability to think critically, argue persuasively, and communicate clearly.
We strive to do all of this while cultivating in students a delight in God, His Word, and His Church.
Higher Education and Administration
A popular focus for many of our Doctor of Education students is teaching and leading at the college or graduate school level. Included in several courses are concepts and skill development related to pedagogy, instructional techniques, online teaching, and curriculum development. Several students began teaching adjunctively even before completing their degree.
Many of our current students and graduates are involved in leadership/administration of Christian colleges and universities. Students have concentrated their research in such areas as assessment of alumni attitudes and perceptions, vision casting in higher education institutions, and leading a university through change. Students take classes that include Current Teaching Methods, Learning Theory, Leadership, and Educational Research.
Here are a few of our students and alumni below, visit us again and meet some more of our program participants.

“At SEBTS you will [be] exposed to essential educational theories taught through the lens of Scripture. Also, you will gain insights that you can apply immediately in the Christian classroom. SEBTS taught me to think Christianly, and integrate sound biblical doctrine and learning to engage the culture for Christ.”
