From Daniel L. Akin

Dear Future Student:

I do not mind telling you, right from the very beginning, that Southeastern is a dangerous place to attend school.

It is dangerous because we will challenge you—I will challenge you—to consider afresh your calling and what it is God wants you to do for His kingdom and His glory. At Southeastern, we do not primarily ask, “Why should I go carry the Gospel to the nations?” Rather, we ask, “Why should I stay in my homeland when there are so many who have not heard?”

That does not mean we believe everyone is called to the international mission field. But many are, and all of our students, in every degree program, will be encouraged to think globally about their faith and their ministry, whether studying to be a pastor, counselor, youth minister, educator, missionary, or anything else.

Whatever God chooses you to do, we would welcome you to study in Wake Forest with us. Southeastern features world-class programs in missions, pastoral ministry, student ministry, theology and many other majors and minors designed to strengthen and equip the future leaders of Christ’s church.

So, if your plan is to cruise through your degree program and get a cushy job in a comfortable place where there are no challenges or hardships, perhaps you had better think again. But if your goal is to lay everything on the line for the Gospel and pursue the Great Commission as your highest calling, then I know you will find a home at Southeastern.

For His Glory,

Daniel L. Akin

Should you attend The College at Southeastern?

If you are looking for a Christian college that offers a world-class faculty, a cutting-edge curriculum, and a warm and vibrant student body, then the answer is yes.  If you would like to join the 2,600 students on our campus in a daily celebration of Christian life and learning, then the answer is yes.  If your passion is to speak and defend God’s Word wherever you have opportunity, whether here in the United States or across the globe, then the answer is yes!

We are a college in the Baptist tradition of historic Christianity, and this is reflected in our faculty, curriculum, and student body.  You will find that we have an outstanding faculty who are faithful to the Scriptures and who excel in their disciplines.  You will find a curriculum that enables you to study both God’s Word and God’s World.  In other words, you will have the opportunity to study not only the Christian Scriptures, but also to study history, literature, philosophy, and science.  Finally, you will find friends among the student body – fellow students who are also seeking to have their souls shaped and their minds sharpened.

Ultimately, our goal is that you will be grounded in the Scriptures, committed to Christ and His Lordship in every aspect of life and dimension of culture, and ready to pass this on to those around you.  We want you to have a lot of fun doing all of this, and we look forward to meeting you, teaching you, and working alongside of you for years to come.
