What is a Hybrid Format Class?
Since almost all of our graduate and undergraduate degrees have on-campus requirements, Hybrid format courses provide a great compromise for students who are unable to access our Wake Forest campus full-time.With Wake Forest Hybrid courses, we at Southeastern are pleased to offer Distance Learning students the convenience of an online course with the credit of an on-campus class!
Hybrids begin each semester with online materials made available in Moodle from CampusNet. Students watch the lectures and complete the assignments as outlined in the course syllabus. Students will then attend a 16-hour classroom component of the course in a Friday/Saturday format at our main Wake Forest campus.
The face-to-face time at the Wake Forest campus will take place on one of two weekends: the beginning or the end of a break week of each semester. The exact dates for the face-to-face time will be noted in the course description in CampusNet. After the face-to-face component of the Hybrid format course, students complete the remaining lectures and assignments as outlined in the course syllabus.
Advantages of taking an on-campus Hybrid format course:
Registration for Hybrid courses is reserved for Distance Learning students the first month of open enrollment. The date that on-campus students may register for hybrid courses will be posted in the class description in CampusNet. This delay allows room for true Distance Learning students (students who live more than 120 miles away from Wake Forest) to enroll in Hybrid format courses first. It is NOT necessary for an on-campus student (students who live within 120 miles of Wake Forest) to complete a petition form for Hybrid courses.
Students may enroll and participate in two classes offered in the hybrid format each semester as long as the face-to-face component does not overlap. Students should carefully check the meeting dates in the course description before registering for the course.
Attendance during the face-to-face time is MANDATORY. Students will not receive credit toward their degree if any part of the on-campus component is missed. Students must attend the entire face-to-face component of the class to receive credit. Fees will apply if the student is dropped from the course for failure to attend the face-to-face component. Additional fees also apply for students who switch to an online format of the same class.
Before you come to campus students may make arrangements in advance for on-campus/off-campus accommodations by contacting the Housing Office at (919) 761-2400 or by email at housing@sebts.edu.
While you are on campus, please drop by the Distance Learning office in Appleby Hall, Suite 109. We try to maintain some presence during the weekend and to be available to meet with students.
