The C. S. Lewis Society at Wake Forest exists under the direction and leadership of the L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture which is a ministry of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. The purpose of the Society is to contribute to the mission of the CFC which states: “The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian Faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.” It is the belief of the leadership at the CFC that C. S. Lewis is one among a few who embodied the essence of this commitment. It is not coincidental that the first conference (October 26-27, 2007) organized by the CFC was a conference on C. S. Lewis. The conference featured plenary speakers James Como, Bruce Edwards, and Walter Hooper. Selected papers from the conference were published in a book titled C. S. Lewis: Views from Wake Forest edited by Michael Travers.
The purpose of the Society is to study the writings and life of C. S. Lewis as a lens through which to discuss the Christian worldview and its cultural implications. This will be achieved by programs and projects designed to (1) engage the community at large with the thought of C. S. Lewis, (2) assist students to have a better understanding of and deeper appreciation for the works of C. S. Lewis as Christian literature, and (3) encourage Christians to think Christianly about all of life.
The Center for Faith and Culture announced the formation of the C. S. Lewis Society at Wake Forest at the Forum lecture on October 22, 2010. Appropriately, the featured speaker was Michael Travers, a C. S. Lewis scholar who serves as a senior fellow at the Center as well as professor of English at the College at Southeastern in Wake Forest, North Carolina. The title of his lecture was “We Are Made for Heaven: An Introduction to C. S. Lewis.”

The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.
The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.
