The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.
The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.
On March 11 and 12, 2008 the Center for Faith and Culture hosted Dr. John Lennox who delivered the Carver-Barnes Lectures at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He spoke on the New Atheism and its implications for science and morality. Dr. Lennox also participated in a question and answer time with students following the lecture series.
Speaker Bio
Dr. John Lennox (MA (Bioethics),Ph.D., D. Phil., D. Sc.) is Reader in Mathematics at the University of Oxford and Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science and Pastoral Advisor, Green College, University of Oxford. He holds doctorates from Oxford, Cambridge, and the University of Wales and has written many peer-reviewed articles in the field of Algebra. He travels widely speaking on the interface between science and religion. “It is the very nature of science that leads me to belief in God, ” he says. Dr. Lennox has written a response to the notion that science leads inevitably to atheism in a book titled God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? published in September 2007. He recently debated atheist Richard Dawkins, also of Oxford University, in Birmingham, Alabama in October 2007. [The debate may be purchased from Fixed Point Foundation]. He is married to Sally and they have three children and four grandchildren and live near Oxford in England.
