Library features Christmas Book Tree
11/28/2012
The Library at Southeastern has a unique and eye-catching addition this year to celebrate the Christmas season: a seven-and-a-half-foot tall Christmas tree composed of books. With over ten man-hours, the Christmas book tree encompasses over five hundred books neatly and thoroughly constructed to resemble a hallmark symbol of the season: a Christmas tree. The books utilized for the project are from the National Union Catalog.
The
National Union Catalog is a large collection of books catalogued by the Library of Congress and other American and Canadian libraries. The National Union Catalog of Pre-1956 Imprints, a set of 754 volumes, largely superseded the older Library of Congress Catalog of printed books, and included printed works published before 1956, which are held by major American and Canadian libraries. This set is a massive bibliography compiled during the period from 1968 to 1981. The
Catalogs contain photocopies of printed catalog cards from major North American libraries, arranged alphabetically by author's last name, or by title for books that have no author.
The library staff invites you to take a minute between classes to glance and awe over the Christmas book tree on the first floor of the library, just outside the Writing Center.
