The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.
The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.
Creation Care: Practice and Issues--A Symposium was the first of a series of initiatives meant to lay the groundwork for our upcoming fall conference, Creation Care: A Theology of Stewardship. The symposium was held on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.This initiative included presentations by Dr. John Baden, Founder and Chairman of the Foundation for Research on Economics and the Environment (FREE) and Mr. Tom Rowley, Executive Director of A Rocha USA, a Christian nature conservation organization that focuses on science and research, practical conservation and environmental education.
During the first session of the symposium Dr. Baden described FREE's work in educating both religious and civil leaders about environmental stewardship, environmental economics, and public policy at the FREE retreat center in Bozeman, Montana. Following Dr. Baden's presentation, Mr. Rowley shared the various facets of A Rocha including its international work to restore regions that have been damaged environmentally, inner-city work through urban garden outreach programs, and children's educational programs.
Dr. Baden began the evening portion of the symposium by speaking on Economics, Justice and the Environment. Mr. Rowley followed and spoke on Ethics, Morality and the Environment. Both speakers helped raise awareness regarding key issues surrounding the topic of creation care.
Following each session there was a time for questions and answers. Below (Left to Right) Mr. Tom Rowley and Dr. John Baden field questions while Center Director, Dr. Bruce Little moderates the Creation Care Symposium question and answer session.
