The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.
The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.
The conference entitled C.S. Lewis: The Man and His Work, a 21st Century Legacy was sponsored by the Center for Faith and Culture on October 26-27, 2007. More than 250 people attended the event, which featured plenary addresses from some of the most noted Lewis scholars in the world and papers read in parallel sessions from more than 40 scholars.
Speaker Synopses
Mr. Walter Hooper was the keynote speaker for the event. Mr. Hooper serves as trustee and literary advisor to the C.S. Lewis Estate. He has edited or written introductions for approximately 30 books of Lewis’ materials. During the last year of Lewis’s life, Mr. Hooper worked as the author’s private secretary. Originally from Reidsville, N.C., Mr. Hooper now resides in Oxford, England.

Conference keynote address: C. S. Lewis: Reflections About the Man
Dr. Bruce Edwards has written two books on Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: They are Not a Tame Lion and Further Up and Further In: Understanding C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He also edited the four-volume work, C.S. Lewis: Life, Works, Legacy. In addition to his job as associate dean for distance education and international programs and professor of English at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, Dr. Edwards maintains a website for C.S. Lewis and The Inklings.
Plenary address: C. S. Lewis: America’s Bonny Fighter
Dr. James Como is one of the founding members of the largest C.S. Lewis society, the New York C.S. Lewis Society. He serves as professor of rhetoric and public communication at the York College of the City University of New York. Dr. Como wrote Remembering C.S. Lewis and Branches to Heaven: The Geniuses of C.S. Lewis.
