The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.
The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.
On Monday, October 19, 2009 at 7 pm the Center for Faith and Culture hosted a film night. Film night at the Center is designed primarily to view significant films (not necessarily recent films) in order to learn how to critique films in light of worldview issues to see how our culture answers (or does not answer) the important questions of life. In the end, we want to develop critical film-watching habits so that as Christians we will understand our culture and be able to speak more effectively to that culture.
On October 19 the film screened was Dead Poets Society (1989). Directed by Peter Weir and starring Robin Williams, this profound film about the ideas that shaped our culture in the 1960s was food for thoughtful discussion about the philosophical and practical ramifications of existentialism. Please join us for our next film night which will take place next semester. Look for further details in the spring.
