Mission & Purpose

The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture seeks to engage culture as salt and light, presenting and defending the Christian faith and demonstrating its implications for all areas of human existence.

The Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) To convey graciously and apply effectively the Christian worldview to all areas of culture and to the human condition; (2) To encourage and support the Church in its redemptive work.

On October 14 internationally-known economist from the Czech Republic, Tomas Sedlacek, spoke on Christianity and Economics. Enjoy the event slideshow below:

Speaker: Tomas Sedlacek (1977) is a Chief Macroeconomic Strategist at ČSOB (Ceskoslovenska obchodni banka, a. s., a universal bank operating in the Czech Republic). He is a member of the National Economic Council, an advisory body to the prime minister. He also serves as an elected chairman of the Fiscal Reform group. He worked as an economic advisor to President Vaclav Havel. He later served as an expert, non-political advisor to the Finance Minister. Yale Economic Review (2006) has ranked him among five hot shots in economics. He is a regular columnist and a commentator. He has earned his PhD degree with honors at at Charles University, one of the oldest universities in the world.

He also lectures on Philosophy of Economics. In 2009 he published a book on philosophy, ethics and history of economic thought, Economics of Good and Evil, which has unexpectedly become a national bestseller, later adopted as a theater piece which keeps selling out the National Theater in Prague. The book has been translated and published by Oxford University Press in 2011 and other translations are on the way (German, Chinese, Polish, Italian etc.).

Sedlacek is currently on tour for his book, Economics of Good and Evil. He will be speaking at various venues. Some of his stops include: the World Bank in D.C., Politics & Prose in D.C., Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York City, Google NYC, The Harvard Club in New York City, and at the Carnegie Council on Ethics & International Affairs in New York City.
