Southeastern reaches 'visible milestone' due to God's faithfulness
7/20/2011

by Michael McEwen

The Southeastern Fund is one of the five components of Southeastern’s annual operating budget. The Fund is the way members of the Southeastern family personally, and intimately participate in the immediate needs facing the seminary as she equips students for Great Commission ministry.

“This year has been our best year ever and in a time of economic challenge,” said president Danny Akin. “It is a wonderful witness to the commitment so many have to a school determined to be used by our Lord in fulfilling the Great Commission. To God be the glory. Great things He has done!”

Many capital projects, unforeseen needs, and other essentials directly benefit from the sacrificial gifts made to the Southeastern Fund. The Fund is expansive in scope. It keeps the lights on, cuts the grass, and helps to pay the faculty throughout the year.

With the goal of $650,000 by the end of the fiscal year––July 31––Southeastern has received this amount and exceeded it by nearly $100,000. “The substantial amount given, more than $745,000 to date, is the most God’s people have given to support this work in our 60 years of preparing students to serve for the glory of Christ,” said director of financial development, Daniel Palmer.

Reflecting on God’s faithfulness, Palmer said, “We have only begun to see how God is going to move in the hearts of people and lead them to invest generously in this work.  To be sure, we celebrate this ‘visible milestone’ because we clearly discern the hand of God in it. We are overwhelmed by God’s provision in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Yet, needs remain. We are counting these financial gifts as blessings from God and trusting Him to send more men and women who will give themselves to the work of equipping gospel-ready champions for King Jesus. Indeed, great is His faithfulness!”

The Southeastern Fund has many contributors consisting of members of the Board of Trustees, the Board of Visitors, friends and alumni of Southeastern, churches, as well as faculty and staff who donate to the Fund.

Akin said, “Words are not adequate to express my gratitude to the friends of Southeastern who give sacrificially and generously to enable us to train men and women to serve the Church and take the gospel of King Jesus to the nations.”

“Thank you for investing in this work and thank you in advance for your future support,” said senior vice president, Ryan Hutchinson. “In the words of Paul from Philippians 4:17, ‘Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.’ May God bring great blessing to you for your faithfulness to participate in His work.”
