Previous trips

Helping students experience the nations through short-term mission trips and seeing them build long-term Gospel relationships is just one of the ways SEBTS is on Mission. Each year the CGCS sponsors several trips designed to offer practical, hands-on experience in the field, and to equip team members for a lifetime of kingdom service. To this end, each mission trip includes coursework, discussion and practicum, and also counts toward your degree. Tuition charges are waived. Southeastern encourages every student and every faculty member to participate in at least one mission trip during their course of studies.

Metro New York City - Summer '12
Imagine a week in the most Gospel-strategic city on the planet, a place where 22 million people - speaking 800 different languages - live within 75 miles of Times Square. Now imagine yourself with a team of 16 SEBTS students investing a week on the ground in Metro New York; working with church planters on service projects, surveying, witnessing, street evangelism, and various other ministry opportunities. Students will be exposed to a variety of church plants in different contexts. They will also encourage church planters and field partners by serving alongside of them during the week.
This trip will challenge and encourage students to see themselves going to the least-reached, most strategic cities in the U.S. to work with new church plants. For more information, contact Dr. Mike Dodson (mdodson@sebts.edu) or Dayna White (dwhite@sebts.edu). Stop by the CGCS to sign up, to put down your deposit, and to receive fundraising help and instructions.

South Sudan - Summer '12
Our team will be visiting Kajo Keji, South Sudan where we will join Sudanese nationals at two of three mission sites in helping to strengthen existing church sites or assist in establishing a new cell group. Each day we will share the gospel at family housing units, at schools, or in markets, followed by immediate initial discipleship. Our team will help model and reinforce healthy discipleship principles for our national partners. We will assist and guide them as they practice and contextualize these principles during our time in country. Our desire is to work towards empowering national leaders with tools, resources and training.
We also partner with a Bible School in Kajo Keji. At their invitation, you may be able to guest teach at this school; helping to train the next generation of leaders.
While you are in Sudan: Each day you will partner with local believers to share the gospel in the community. You will be helping either to start of brand new church, or strengthen an existing one. One day will be set aside for touring, shopping and free time.

India - Summer '12
Invited by a former 2+2 graduate and IMB team leader, our India team will be working in one of the darkest and most difficult places to minister in all of South Asia. Varanasi is the location for the largest religious gathering on the planet – a Hindu festival. The team will work with IMB personnel and their national leaders on the ground to provide an experience that includes evangelism and discipleship with a church planting focus. Students may have an opportunity to contribute to a training event while there as well.

1. Prayer. Bathe any and every trip in prayer.
2. Make copies of your passport details, insurance policy, visas and credit card numbers. Carry one copy in a separate place to the originals and leave a copy with someone at home.
3. Make sure your passport has at least six months validity and carry additional copies of your passport photo with you in case you need a replacement passport while overseas.
4. Keep your passport and money on your person not in separate or unsecured bag while overseas.
5. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with someone at home and keep in regular contact with friends and relatives while overseas.
6. Check with health professionals for information on recommended vaccinations or other precautions and find out about overseas laws on traveling with medicines.
7. Google your destination and explore country and cultural facts. You may also want to pick up a travel guide for your destination.
8. Pack smart and light. Check the airline website to know the allowable weight and pieces of luggage. Don't pack more than you can reasonably carry for up to a mile.
9. Don't wear ostentatious jewelry or other conspicuous items. Be discreet with money, credit cards, and electronic items. These things make you an easy target for crime.
10. Be prepared for your body to be out-of-whack and for potential inconveniences. Nothing is guaranteed in overseas travel!
