On April 8 2011, Dr. Bruce Little shared about Francis Schaeffer, an evangelical who changed the way Christians in the 1960’s thought about their relationship to the culture and how his ideas still apply to the Church in the 21st century. Approximately 100 people were in attendance for the event.
Dr. Little's lecture commenced with a brief biography of Schaeffer. Interspersed with anecdotes from Little's direct communication with Schaeffer's daughter, Deborah Middelmann and data derived from Schaeffer's personal materials housed at Southeastern, Little painted a portrait of this influential evangelical leader who was known as, " the man who will actually listen to you and answer your questions." Dr. Little also offered a brief synopsis of Schaeffer's apologetics and his relevance for Christians today.
Following the lecture attendees were invited to participate in a question and answer time with Dr. Little. Question topics included implementing Schaeffer's L'Abri model today, what makes Schaeffer's ideas relevant today, and who or what was most influential to Schaeffer's thinking.
