Staff Q&A with Dan Drennen

Dan Drennen is the director of Media Services at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He shares about his work supporting students and faculty in the classroom and his role in Southeastern events.

Tell us about yourself. 

I’m 33 years old, and I was born and raised in central Florida. I’m a graduate from Liberty University. I’ve been married to my wife Monica for 12 years. We have three kids: two girls and a boy. I serve at Southeastern as the Director of Media Services. 

What do you do at Southeastern?

I oversee operations for media services at Southeastern Seminary, which has three primary areas of responsibility for the institution—classroom media technology, event production support and video production.

On what are you currently working?

Currently, the team is working on the GO Conference, a two-day conference to equip students to be sent out to their neighbors and the nations. We are working on video content and graphics, designing stage, handling logistics and scheduling for the worship band, as well as other experiential elements for the conference.

What have you been reading recently?

I just finished Scott Sauls’ book “Befriend: Create Belonging in an Age of Judgment, Isolation, and Fear.” It’s really helpful for a couple reasons. It covers many difficult areas and issues of life, but, it covers the issues with Scripture and perspectives that may differ from my own experiences. 

When you get home from work, what do you look forward to doing? (What are your other passions?) 

I love seeing my kids when I get home. I love being a dad. I also love to cycle. I try to ride a couple times a week. 

Who are your role models? 

My dad is a role model for me, especially early in my life. He modeled hard work and how to love and lead a family. 

What has God been teaching you lately?

I am a sinner in need of grace. More specific than that, the Lord has been teaching me what it means to be in Christ daily.

If a prospective student asked you, “Why Southeastern?” what would you say?

If Southeastern is the right place for you, you will be challenged in the areas of head, heart and hands. Southeastern is known as a Great Commission seminary, but we also strive (I think) to be a Great Commandment seminary. Southeastern will challenge you to think rightly about God and His word, to set your affections toward Him and to serve Him and others in tangible ways.

What is your favorite part about your position at Southeastern?

I love helping students to serve their local church by equipping them with skills in areas of media technology and communications. I also enjoy helping them learn how to use those skills to spread the gospel.
