Welcome to the website of the Office of Ph.D. Studies at SEBTS. We are grateful for your interest in the program. Southeastern’s Doctor of Philosophy degree provides a graduate-level academic research program for highly qualified students who wish to pursue advanced studies in the major fields covered in the Master of Divinity program. Admission is competitive.
At Southeastern, the PhD program is designed to help the church fulfill the Great Commission. All authority is given to Christ, so his reign extends to every area of life - including the intellectual and academic life. Because of his authority, Christ’s followers go into the world and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all things that he has commanded (Matthew 28:19). At Southeastern, we believe that the best scholarship at the highest level rightly rests under the lordship of Jesus. We pursue scholarship to honor our king, serve the Church, and fulfill the Great Commission.
This website details some elements of our program and the admission requirements, as well as a checklist to assist you in completing the application process. The deadline for all application materials for all areas of study is December 1 of every calendar year. Please refer to the information in the website for more details, and feel free to contact our office. If we may assist you in any way during this process, please do not hesitate to contact one of the members of our team, which can be found in the contact tabs to the left. We will be glad to answer your questions and assist you in the application process.
With warm regards,
Dr. Heath A. Thomas
