Moodle Technical Requirements & Recommendations

Prior to using Moodle to view your course material, please review the following requirements and recommendations to be sure your computer is set up properly.

Computer Operating System & Software

• Windows: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7 and a 56k V.90 modem or better Internet connection.
• Macintosh: Mac OS X and a 56k V.90 modem or better Internet connection.
• You might need additional software or browser plug-ins in order to display some content (streaming media, interactive multimedia, etc.) in individual courses.  If so, you will typically see a message asking if you want to install the needed software (ex: Java, Flash, Shockwave Player, Windows Media Player, etc.).  Click the buttons to install the necessary software or plug-ins.

Browsers

• While Moodle will work with most of the popular browsers, use of the Firefox browser is highly recommended to provide the best Moodle experience:

  • Firefox for both Windows and Mac platforms - Free download.
  • Firefox 3 may not display all PDFs properly.  If this occurs, install Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.

Notes for Other Browsers: 

• Opera does not show built-in html editor (WYSIWYG) in Moodle.
• Safari does not show built-in html editor (WYSIWYG) in Moodle.  Chat tool does not always work properly.

Browser Pop-up Configuration:

Some of the Moodle courses use pop-up windows, therefore you will need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser or toolbar.  The following sections give you the method for disabling pop-ups for campusnet.sebts.edu for some of the most popular browsers and toolbars.

Firefox

1. Go to Tools > Options.
2. Click Content tab.
3. If Block pop-up windows is checked, then click Exceptions button near it.
4. Type campusnet.sebts.edu.
5. Click Allow, click Close, click OK.

NOTE:  Alternatively, you may set this Pop-up Blocker Exception the first time Firefox blocks the site by clicking the Options button that appears and then clicking on "Allow pop-ups for campusnet.sebts.edu" (see image below):

Internet Explorer's Built-In Popup Blocker

1. Go to Tools: Popup Blocker. At this point you can either just turn the pop-up blocker off, or continue with the settings below.
2. Select Popup Blocker Settings.
3. For Address of Web site to allow, type campusnet.sebts.edu
4. Click the Add button.
5. Click the Close button.
6. Close and restart Internet Explorer.

NOTE:  Alternatively, you may make this change the first time Internet Explorer blocks the site by clicking the "Pop-up blocked" bar  that appears near the top of the screen and then clicking on "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site . . ." (see images below):

Yahoo! Toolbar 

1. Go to your moodle course
2. Click the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker button:
3. Click Always Allow Pop-Up From...
4. Click campusnet.sebts.edu .
5. Click the Allow button.
6. In response to the "Always allow pop-ups from campusnet.sebts.edu" dialog box, click the OK button.
7. Click www.sebts.edu.
8. Click the Allow button.
9. In response to the "Always allow pop-ups from www.sebts.edu" dialog box, click the OK button.
10. Click the Close button.

Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer  (Note:  Google Toolbar for Firefox does not block pop-ups)

1. Go to your Moodle course.
2. Once you have entered the course, in the Google Toolbar near the top of your IE browser click the button which shows the number of pop-ups that have been blocked (circled in image below). The button will now turn white and pop-ups on this site will be allowed.
