This online and on campus training portion of the C. H. Spurgeon Center includes specific curriculum development related to pastors, as well as conferences, workshops, webinars and online resources, all geared toward equipping local church leadership. Practical training opportunities will be offered for our students and alumni as well as those who are not yet a part of the Southeastern family.
Authenticity Series: An Honest Look Into the Life of a Pastor
The C. H. Spurgeon Center is launching the Authenticity Series in order to provide an honest and encouraging look at the issues real pastors face in ministry. These events will be conversational and will feature input from a panel of experts in the field. Intended for both local pastors and students interested in pastoral ministry, Authenticity Series events will tackle practical and/or theological topics most relevant to ministry today.
The spring semester’s first Authenticity event will take place on Tuesday, January 27th from 7 – 8:30 PM in the Ledford Multi-Purpose Room. Please come join Dr. Jamie Dew and Dr. David Horner as we discuss the balancing act of dividing time between family and ministry. You can RSVP for this free event here.
The spring semester’s second Authenticity event will take place on Thursday, April 16th from 7-8:30 PM in the Jacumin-Simpson rotunda. Come dialogue with our panel on how ministers can avoid burnout. We’ll discuss the theological importance and practical reality of spiritual disciplines. You can RSVP for this free event here.
Recordings and other resources from previous Authenticity Series events can be found on the Spurgeon Center’s Recommended Resources page.
Equip Workshops are intended to provide practical training for Southeastern students are interested or involved in pastoral ministry, as well as area pastors. These events will provide a multi-faceted study of key aspects of ministry that aren’t always taught in the classroom, such as funerals, ordinances, and pastoral care. These events will provide students with a strong foundational understanding of the theological implications and practical considerations of each topic.
The spring semester’s Equip Workshop will be Wednesday, February 25th from 10 am – 12 PM in Appleby Chapel. This semester, we’ll address issues related to funerals and grief. Our panel, comprised of Dr. John Ewart, Dr. David Jones, and Dr. Sam Williams, will discuss questions such as “How do you help your people through the grieving process?”, “How do I prepare for a funeral service?”, and “What kind of message, if any, do I preach at a funeral?” We will also walk through the practical issues of the funeral service with Dr. Ewart and Wake Forest’s Bright Funeral Home, who will also join us for this workshop. Don’t forget to RSVP for this event here.
Recordings and other resources from previous Equip Workshop can be found on the Spurgeon Center's Recommended Resources page.
In the upcoming months, the C. H. Spurgeon Center will develop one or more Annual Conference concepts that speak specifically to the needs of full-time and bivocational pastors and their families. These conferences will take place on the Southeastern campus so that local pastors and students may attend. The C. H. Spurgeon Center Conferences will also be available via simulcast for those wishing to attend from a distance. After the event, the content will be made available on our “Recommended Resources” page.
