Reid AwardAlvin Reid was honored in Southeastern’s chapel for a festschrift written in his honor.

Reid holds the Bailey Smith Chair of Evangelism and is a professor of evangelism and student ministry at Southeastern Baptist Theology Seminary (SEBTS).

“A Passion for the Great Commission: Essays in Honor of Alvin L. Reid” highlights aspects of Reid’s work on leadership, history, vision and strategy.

Larry McDonald, from North Greenville University in Greer, S.C., and Matt Queen, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, are the editors of the work and were present for the ceremony.

Reid has instilled a passion for the Great Commission in his students, friends and colleagues. As act of appreciation for the blessing of his influence, a selection of those impacted by him contributed essays for the collection.

Reid praised God for the gift of the festschrift as he spoke about James 1:17. He also thanked his wife, Michelle, two children Josh and Hannah and his students for the honor. “Teaching is great because of students,” said Reid.
