SEBTS hires four new faculty members

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) announces the hiring of four new faculty members, Jason Fowler, Chip Hardy, Dwayne Milioni and Denise O’Donoghue, to train and equip students to fulfill the Great Commission.

These new faculty members will be working in a variety of subject areas including Library services, Old Testament Semitic Languages, preaching and women’s ministry.

“Akin’s [the president of SEBTS] visionary leadership has catalyzed consistent increases in enrollment and enables us to hire such fine new faculty members each semester,” said Bruce Ashford, provost of SEBTS.

Jason Fowler is the new director of library services and instructor of library services. He comes to Southeastern with a proven record as a top-shelf librarian and is known especially for fostering a customer-friendly environment for potential library users and researchers. At The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) in Louisville, Ky., he served as acting library director and associate librarian for research services and archivist.

Fowler is a graduate of North Greenville University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and University of Kentucky. He is also a certified archivist with the Academy of Certified Archivists and is a member of several professional associations including the American Library Association, the American Theological Library Association and the Association of Librarians and Archivists at Baptist Institutions.

In the fall of 2014, Chip Hardy will begin teaching as assistant professor of Old Testament and Semitic languages. He graduates this semester from one of the top Semitic languages programs in the United States and has proven his ability as a researcher already through publications in field-standard academic journals. He is also known as a first-rate classroom instructor.

Hardy comes from Louisiana College in Pineville, La., where he serves as assistant professor of Old Testament and Hebrew. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, SBTS and the University of Chicago. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in Northwest Semitic Philology at the University of Chicago. He is scheduled this semester to defend his dissertation, which is entitled, “Diachronic Development in Biblical Hebrew Prepositions: A Case Study in Grammaticalization.” Hardy has published articles and essays in journals such as “Vetus Testamentum,” “Journal of Semitic Studies, Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research” and “Southeastern Theological Review.”

Dwayne Milioni is known as a preacher, church planting catalyst and biblical counselor. He has been appointed as an assistant professor of preaching and has served as an adjunctive faculty member at SEBTS. He will continue to serve as pastor of Open Door Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., as he teaches preaching courses and facilitates the Ph.D. concentration in preaching.

Milioni is a graduate of Albion College, Liberty University and SEBTS where he defended his dissertation entitled, “The Concept of Self in the Preaching of Harry Emerson Fosdick.”

Denise O’Donoghue, is the director of women’s life at SEBTS and has been appointed as assistant professor of ministry to women. She also serves as a conference faculty member for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina’s Embrace Leadership Training, a conference faculty member for LifeWay’s National Leadership forum and a member of the steering committees for the NCBSC Women’s Prayer Evangelism Conference and the Embrace Leadership Network.

Before coming to SEBTS, O’Donoghue served as women’s ministry coordinator at Bayleaf Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. Her dissertation is entitled, “Critical Success Factors in Creating and Sustaining an Intergenerational Women’s Ministry: A Delphi Study.” Her expertise in biblical counseling and ministry to women will bear fruit on the campus for years to come.
