Southeastern welcomes two new preaching faculty

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) has added Scott Pace and Ronjour Locke to its full-time preaching faculty.

Scott Pace“The addition of Ronjour Locke and Scott Pace only adds strength to an already outstanding preaching department,” said Danny Akin, president of SEBTS. “Both men are faithful expositors and churchmen. Their passion for Christ, the Great Commission, the Word of God and the lost make them a perfect fit for Southeastern.”

Pace, who received his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. from SEBTS, has been named associate professor of preaching and pastoral ministry and associate director for the Center for Preaching and Pastoral Leadership. He will begin his position June 1, 2018.

Pace has taught at a number of institutions, including Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he currently serves as the associate professor of applied ministry and the Hughes Chair of Christian ministry. Pace has served in pastoral ministry since 2000 and academic administration since 2005. He and his wife, Dana, have four children: Gracelyn, Tyler, Tessa and Cassie.

OBU President David Whitlock expressed his deep appreciation for Pace’s contribution to OBU and excitement for his new position at SEBTS.

“A winsome witness for Christ, Scott has made a huge difference at OBU and leaves us stronger and better for his service here,” said Whitlock. “I will personally miss him but am excited for his new opportunities for ministry at our sister institution, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.”

“We are thrilled that Ronjour Locke is joining us,” said Keith Whitfield, dean of graduate studies at SEBTS. “He is passionate about training students to be able to teach the Bible in any and every context that God’s sends them. Ronjour comes to us with ministry experience from an urban context, which will be a great asset for the training and equipping of our students.”

Locke was formerly the pastor of First Baptist Church (FBC) in Brooklyn, a neighborhood within Baltimore, Maryland. He and his wife, Annie, came to serve at FBC in January 2012. Locke has experience in educational and pastoral ministry and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have four children: Joshua, Noah, Mikaiya and Naomi.

“Scott Pace and Ronjour Locke will extend Southeastern’s reach when it comes to equipping leaders who shepherd churches to fulfill the Great Commission,” said Jim Shaddix, professor of preaching and director of the Center for Preaching and Pastoral Leadership at SEBTS. “These brothers bring a wealth of combined experience in pastoral ministry, expository preaching and classroom instruction that will help us train a wider range of leaders for greater kingdom impact.”
