On June 19, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) announced that Larry Lyon has been appointed to serve as vice president of enrollment, a position that was recently approved by NOBTS trustees June 4.

Lyon will be transitioning from his current role as director of enrollment at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS), where he has faithfully served in recruiting and enrollment efforts for a decade.

“Larry’s Great Commission focus and servant leadership have been integral to the growth of SEBTS over the past 10 years,” said Art Rainer, vice president for institutional advancement at SEBTS. “This new opportunity is well-deserved, and I could not be more excited for Larry, his family and NOBTS.” larry lyon

SEBTS has experienced nine consecutive years of record enrollment under Lyon’s leadership of overseeing all SEBTS admissions processes for graduate and undergraduate studies. Lyon is leaving behind both a legacy of enrollment success and deep community at SEBTS.

“This transition is truly bittersweet for my family and me,” said Lyon. “We love the SEBTS community and it has been an absolute joy and privilege to serve alongside so many great staff and faculty. I am excited for the future of SEBTS and watch in anticipation the amazing things God is going to continue to do in and through the institution.”

In his role as vice president of enrollment beginning July 1, Lyon will expand his current responsibilities to include oversight of all departments that involve student enrollment and student services. Operating as chief strategist and catalyst for NOBTS enrollment, Lyon will oversee services such as admissions, advisement, recruitment, success, retention and completion.

Lyon is a two-time graduate of SEBTS, having earned his Ph.D. in theological studies and Christian ethics in 2016 and his Master of Divinity in apologetics in 2009. He received his Bachelor of Science in Christian ministry in 2001 from Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.

“While it is hard to say goodbye to this community we love, we are excited to join the ministry of NOBTS,” said Lyon. “New Orleans is a multicultural city that will serve as a training ground for the students of NOBTS as they prepare for ministry. My prayer is that NOBTS will equip the next generation of students to carry the gospel to their churches, families, neighbors and to the ends of the earth.”
