Southeastern launches campus-wide Who’s Your One initiative

With the start of a new semester, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) is refreshing its Great Commission focus and fervor among students, faculty and staff through its launch of the “Who’s Your One” initiative.

“Southeastern Seminary loves the nations. We also love individual souls in need of a personal relationship with Jesus,” said SEBTS President Danny Akin. “Who’s Your One puts sharing the gospel front and center where it belongs in each of our lives. I cannot wait to see its impact on our seminary community as well as those who will hear the good news of salvation. Lives are going to be changed for eternity!”

Akin announced the campus-wide initiative during convocation Jan. 28. The goal of Who’s Your One at Southeastern is for all students, faculty and staff to be actively praying for and sharing their faith with at least one person this year. The hope is for both on-campus and distance learning students to engage in gospel intentionality with their unbelieving friends and family.

SEBTS will be providing several resources to engage in Who’s Your One as a campus, including digital and physical prayer guides, on-campus prayer meetings, multi-length evangelism training and online and in-person class discussions.

A 30-day, campus-wide emphasis on prayer and evangelism will take place March 17-April 23. After each chapel service, prayer for the lost and evangelism training will be held in the classrooms in the basement of Binkley chapel. Prayer meetings and evangelism training will alternate for each chapel service. On Feb. 15 and March 21, an all-day evangelism training will be held by George Robinson, associate professor of evangelism and missions and the Bailey Smith chair of evangelism at SEBTS. These events and more are among the opportunities students can expect during the 30-day emphasis, which will lead into Global Missions Week, April 20-24.

“I am so very excited about the upcoming Who’s Your One initiative. I believe that this initiative has the potential to catalyze our seminary family’s love for the lost,” said John Ewart, associate vice president for Global Theological Initiatives and ministry centers and professor of missions and pastoral leadership. “I am praying that hundreds, if not thousands, of lives will be changed through the prayers and intentional evangelism of our SEBTS faculty, staff and students.”

The North American Mission Board (NAMB) officially launched the Who’s Your One initiative on February 26, 2019, as part of Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear’s “Gospel Above All” theme for his presidency. Johnny Hunt, senior vice president of evangelism and leadership for NAMB, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the launch of the Who’s Your One initiative at Southeastern.

“There are so many reasons I love SEBTS, my alma mater,” said Hunt. “I’m grateful for their embracing of the Who’s Your One campaign for the faculty and student body. Thank you, Dr. Danny Akin, for modeling and leading SEBTS to continue making the Great Commission the priority of your leadership. We can turn the tide in evangelism and baptisms.”
