Southeastern forms partnership with Brainerd Institute

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) is excited to announce its partnership with The Brainerd Institute at Brainerd Baptist Church, displaying how Southern Baptists are working together to advance the gospel through education.

Beginning Fall 2020, SEBTS will be offering Brainerd Institute students credit toward a Master of Arts and Master of Divinity in Christian ministry.

“Ministry preparation happens best when seminaries work with churches to train future ministry leaders,” said Keith Whitfield, vice president for academic administration and dean of graduate studies. “We are excited to partner with Brainerd Baptist Church’s School of Ministry for this purpose.”

Brainerd and SEBTS are offering this degree plan to students enrolled in The Brainerd Institute and those already living in the Chattanooga area. Likewise, students who desire to enroll in the program as “Credit-Only” and are not currently pursuing a degree at SEBTS are welcome to apply. SEBTS courses will be woven into Brainerd’s existing curriculum for students seeking an M.A. or M.Div. in Christian Ministry.

SEBTS plans to provide multiple avenues for course instruction, including online, hybrid and face-to-face options, all of which will be taught by SEBTS faculty and approved adjuncts. This fall, the Brainerd Institute will offer Theology I and New Testament I as online courses that feature opportunities for students to meet at Brainerd for enrichment, fellowship and to discuss ways they can apply what they are learning to their specific ministry.

“Brainerd is a dynamic, mission-focused church that is making a difference for the gospel in Chattanooga, TN,” said Whitfield. “They are a perfect Great Commission partner as we work together to train the next generation of leaders for the church.”

Brainerd Baptist Church seeks to help those who are far from God become committed followers of Christ from the Scenic City to the nations.

Southeastern Seminary, located in Wake Forest, NC, seeks to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the Church and fulfill the Great Commission. Since 1950, Southeastern has trained and sent out thousands to minister in the United States and around the world.

Students who desire to enroll in this program will be expected to pay current SEBTS tuition costs. However, students can reach out to the SEBTS Financial Aid Office to learn more about what options are available to them. For more information, contact [email protected].
