Moodle Technical Requirements & Recommendations

Prior to using Moodle to view your course material, please review the following requirements and recommendations to be sure your computer is set up properly.

These are just minimums. We recommend keeping all your software updated.

Browser Pop-up Configuration:

Some of the Moodle courses use pop-up windows, therefore you will need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser or toolbar.  The following sections give you the method for disabling pop-ups for for some of the most popular browsers and toolbars.


  1. Go to Tools > Options.
  2. Click Content tab.
  3. If Block pop-up windows is checked, then click Exceptions button near it.
  4. Type
  5. Click Allow, click Close, click OK.

NOTE:  Alternatively, you may set this Pop-up Blocker Exception the first time Firefox blocks the site by clicking the Options button that appears and then clicking on "Allow pop-ups for" (see image below):

Internet Explorer's Built-In Popup Blocker

  1. Go to Tools: Popup Blocker. At this point you can either just turn the pop-up blocker off, or continue with the settings below.
  2. Select Popup Blocker Settings.
  3. For Address of Web site to allow, type
  4. Click the Add button.
  5. Click the Close button.
  6. Close and restart Internet Explorer.

NOTE:  Alternatively, you may make this change the first time Internet Explorer blocks the site by clicking the "Pop-up blocked" bar  that appears near the top of the screen and then clicking on "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site . . ." (see images below):

Browser Toolbars

If you are using a browser toolbar, there may be different pop-up blocker settings.  Here are some examples (however, the steps may change with future versions):

  1. Go to your moodle course
  2. Click the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker button: Yahoo Toolbar Pop-up blocker button
  3. Click Always Allow Pop-Up From...
  4. Click .
  5. Click the Allow button.
  6. In response to the "Always allow pop-ups from" dialog box, click the OK button.
  7. Click
  8. Click the Allow button.
  9. In response to the "Always allow pop-ups from" dialog box, click the OK button.
  10. Click the Close button.
  1. Go to your Moodle course.
  2. Once you have entered the course, in the Google Toolbar near the top of your IE browser click the button which shows the number of pop-ups that have been blocked (circled in image below). The button will now turn white and pop-ups on this site will be allowed.
