Southeastern Celebrates Great Commission Gifts on Giving Tuesday

Celebrating the mission of Southeastern Seminary, 300 Great Commission givers generously supported Southeastern during its Giving Tuesday campaign. Throughout the day, students, staff, and alumni gathered to write thank you notes and voice their appreciation for Southeastern and for those whose gifts enable Southeastern’s mission.

This year, Southeastern’s Giving Tuesday campaign goal was for 300 Great Commission givers to financially support its mission of equipping students to serve the Church and fulfill the Great Commission. In God’s kindness, Southeastern reached its goal, receiving donations from 300 givers with gifts totaling more than $212,000.

Thanks to the generosity of several donors, every dollar given to the Southeastern Fund yesterday and throughout the remainder of the year will be matched up to $250,000. This matching opportunity doubles the reach of every gift, ensuring that every dollar has a lasting Great Commission impact.

“Your gift — no matter the size — helps to make theological education more accessible for our students,” commented President Danny Akin. “Every gift given toward the cause of theological education at Southeastern will have a profound kingdom impact. Thank you for your partnership in equipping future generations of Great Commission graduates.”

Expressing their gratitude to those who gave, more than a hundred students, staff, and faculty gathered at the Ledford Student Center and around campus to write thank you notes and share testimonies of how Southeastern has shaped their lives and ministries.

“Thank you donors. You have helped make it possible to graduate debt free and go to the mission field.” — Jordan Gibbs, current student, BA in Global Studies

“Thank you so much for your continued support as I learn and become equipped to serve the kingdom through counseling others. Your generosity has changed my life among many others. This would not be possible without you!” — Emily Johnson, current student, MA in Christian Marital, Family, and Individual Counseling

“As a two-time graduate of Southeastern and a long-time employee, your donations have assisted me as a student and an on-going fellow laborer in the gospel.” — Mike Lawson, director of campus security, MDiv and DMin graduate

“Thank you so much for your generosity. You are making a great impact that will have great benefit in God’s kingdom. I am thankful for your sacrifice and willingness in giving. Thank you for playing a part in our education for the sake of God’s glory among the nations.” — Emily Anderson, current student, BA in English

“Thank you profusely for your generous gift to Southeastern Seminary. Our efforts here to serve the Lord depend upon your generous gift. My prayers of blessing rest upon you.” — C. Ivan Spencer, professor of history and philosophy

Donations given to the Southeastern Fund enable students and staff like these to receive biblical and theological education at an affordable price and to better equip students to serve the Church and fulfill the Great Commission.

“We are blessed with a strong community of financial supporters who give throughout the year to support the mission of Southeastern,” noted Drew Davis, director of financial and alumni development at Southeastern. “Of the nearly 1,000 Great Commission givers who support the Southeastern Fund annually, roughly 40% give between November and December, with many of them choosing to give on Giving Tuesday.”

“Giving Tuesday is the single largest day of support for Southeastern every year,” added Davis. “It is tremendously impactful financially and communally as alumni, students, faculty, and staff share their stories and gratitude with those who “hold the ropes” so that they might go.”

As a Great Commission seminary, Southeastern is committed to training men and women to know God and his word, to love the local church, and to make disciples of all nations. Southeastern is grateful to Southern Baptists who give generously to the Cooperative Program and to the hundreds of Great Commission donors who give directly — on Giving Tuesday and throughout the year — to further Southeastern’s mission.
