A Great Commission Legacy: Scott and Pam Reed

For Scott and Pam Reed, the joys of stewarding their time, talents, and treasure for Kingdom impact are their greatest motivators. Their love for the Great Commission of Christ has led them to serve their neighbors and the nations. For Pam, a nurse, this meant working at health clinics in South America, while Scott has regularly taught at business schools in Ukraine. Their love for the nations has intentionally woven missions into the framework of their family.

It was this Great Commission conviction that drew them to partner with Southeastern after their church community originally brought them to Southeastern to see the campus for themselves. During their visit, they saw a fruitful field where their investment would flourish and produce Kingdom impact. Now, their love and support for Southeastern has only grown through years of stewardship as they’ve seen firsthand how the classroom shapes the lives of students.

During a trip to Southeast Asia with Dr. Akin and other faculty, Scott and Pam had the joy of seeing the classroom lived out on the field by Southeastern students and alumni. That experience encouraged their hearts and challenged their faith. Seeing first-hand how individual students’ lives had been shaped by Southeastern’s teaching and equipping confirmed their desire to continue their financial support. Moments like these confirmed what they had already come to believe — the authenticity that Southeastern carries is a cause worth partnering with. They are thankful for these experiences with Southeastern, motivating them toward continual giving.

Scott shared his “why” this way: “Southeastern is as advertised: every classroom is a Great Commission classroom. We’ve been in the classroom, and we’ve seen it. Every part of Judson College and Southeastern just oozes with students who are being equipped for ministry by passionate professors and caring staff.”

We’ve been in the classroom, and we’ve seen it. Every part of Judson College and Southeastern just oozes with students who are being equipped for ministry by passionate professors and caring staff.

These experiences led Scott and Pam to commit to partnering with Southeastern to see the school’s mission continue: “After nearly a decade of experiencing how the Great Commission impacted every part of Southeastern, we desired that a portion of our resources to continue having a legacy to impact Southeastern.” The Reeds’ planned gift will ensure that this generation of Southeastern students as well as future generations will be equipped to glorify the Lord by serving the church and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Their God-given hearts of generosity are a gift they have leveraged throughout their lives. They will leave behind a legacy to their families and to the thousands of Southeastern students who are blessed by their support of our campus.

“There are words to the song that remind us why we give,” noted Pam and Scott, quoting the song ‘Find Us Faithful’:

May all who come behind us find us faithful.
May the fire of our devotion light their way.
May footprints that we leave lead them to believe.
And the lives we live inspire them to obey.
Only all who come behind us, find us faithful.
