Southeastern Launches New Go Certificate in Partnership with WMU

Southeastern is excited to announce the launch of a new Go Certificate titled Women’s Missions Leadership, offered in partnership with the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) of NC.

Brandi Kitchin, coordinator for certificate services at Southeastern, expressed the significance of this partnership and the opportunities it offers women who have a heart for leadership.

“Over the last year we have refocused our GO Certificate efforts to creating partnerships with local churches and Southern Baptist entities to open new doors for bringing high-quality theological training to a whole new demographic of students,” she explained. “Our collaboration with the WMU is particularly exciting as it will allow us to engage more intentionally with women who desire a deeper theological foundation as they engage in missional leadership in their local churches and around the world.”

It will allow us to engage more intentionally with women who desire a deeper theological foundation as they engage in missional leadership in their local churches and around the world.

Created with a strong emphasis on global studies and missions, the certificate in Women’s Missions Leadership equips students for leadership in the context of community while providing online theological training through courses taught by Southeastern faculty.

Upon enrolling in the certificate, students are placed in a WMU Women’s Leadership Cohort, a five-week course that gives participants the opportunity to pursue and grow in their calling as leaders within a community of likeminded women. During this time, cohort participants will examine topics on spiritual giftings, preventing leadership burnout, maintaining passion in ministry, and more.

“It’s exciting that we have this partnership with Southeastern,” shared Amanda Martinsen, leadership development consultant for WMU NC. “The biblical foundation in this certificate paired with the practical application of what it looks like to serve within a local church or community gives women a great opportunity. It helps them not only continue their training but also understand who they are as believers and how they can live and serve on mission with God every day.”

Following the leadership development and community of the cohort, the Women’s Missions Leadership certificate further equips participants by walking them through six online courses offered through Southeastern’s Go Certificates:

  • Bible Exposition for Ministry to Women
  • Women’s Ministry in the Local Church
  • Christian Theology for Ministry to Women
  • Counseling Women
  • Leading Women to Be on Mission
  • Great Commission Studies

“It is our hope that this certificate partnership with WMU NC is a picture of Southern Baptist cooperation,” said Chris Thompson, associate vice president for academic administration at Southeastern. “We are grateful for the opportunity to offer our new Ministry to Women certificate courses to enhance their missional strategy.”
