Beyond the Book with Dr. Milioni: “CSB Jesus Daily Bible”
Mary Asta Mountain | January 06, 2025
Over the course of a year, usually starting in January, many Christians resolve to read through the entirety of the Bible. This a goal that Dwayne Milioni, Southeastern associate professor of preaching, is very familiar with. In his own life and experience as a pastor, he has seen the benefit of studying through the entire, cohesive narrative of Scripture. Working with Holman Bibles, Milioni recently edited and published the “CSB Jesus Daily Bible” on January 1. Designed to give readers a deeper comprehension of the Christ-centered narrative of Scripture, the “Jesus Daily Bible” is arranged to provide a flexible, year-long reading plan that can be started at any time.
Take a moment to check out the following Q&A where Milioni dives deeper, answering a few questions about his recent publication.
What is the purpose of the “Jesus Daily Bible,” and who is its target audience?
The “CSB Jesus Daily Bible” is designed to guide the reader through the entire Bible in a year while finding Christ at the center of each week’s reading. This Bible is an excellent resource for individuals, families, small groups, or entire congregations who want to take up the word and read it.
What motivated you to start this project?
I have had the privilege of preaching through the entire Bible at Open Door Church, which took 22 years to complete. As I was finishing, I preached through the Bible in a year. Both of these opportunities inspired the “CSB Jesus Daily Bible.”
Why is it so valuable for us to see Scripture as one cohesive narrative, as opposed to, say, a set of guidelines or a manual for how to live?
The word Bible means “book” and should be read as one story of God’s plan for our redemption through the person and saving work of Jesus Christ. From creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, each book of the Bible tells the same story, and Christ is at the center of it.
What mindset should readers have when approaching the “Jesus Daily Bible”?
Every time you pick up the Bible to read it, you should be prepared to meet with God and hear his voice. The Scriptures are God speaking to us, and after we read, we should pause to worship and pray, thanking God for what we have learned about him. The Bible is God’s gift for his children.
How are readers further equipped to serve the church and fulfill the Great Commission through this text?
The beauty of the Bible is that it reveals the gospel from Genesis to Revelation. Each book shows us some aspect of the Great Commission and how God’s redeemed people are to love and serve one another.
How has writing and working on this project shaped and challenged you spiritually?
This project allowed me to find Jesus in places I had not seen him before and to deepen my relationship with Christ as my glorious Prophet, Priest, and King. My commitment to read the word has grown tremendously, and I hope this Bible will encourage others in the same way.
CSB Jesus Daily Bible
The “CSB Jesus Daily Bible” features a 52-week guided reading plan that shows Jesus throughout all of Scripture. Each week’s reading is structured thematically in a Day 1-5 reading format with a weekly introduction, helpful articles and infographics, and a weekly summary to help readers better understand Jesus’s central role in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Unlike other daily Bibles, the daily reading arrangement is not date specific (e.g., no “January 1”), so you can begin the plan at any point in the calendar year.
