In light of the recent violence in our nation, Southeastern President Danny Akin issues a statement addressing the tragedy of these events, the current state of our country, and the hope that believers have in Jesus Christ.

Charlotte and I, as well as the Southeastern/Judson family, are grieved by the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk and the brutal murder of Iryna Zarutska here in North Carolina. We strongly condemn both of these wicked actions and the rising tide of violence in our nation.

These tragedies are evidence of the evil that resides in the human heart. We pray that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and ultimately to repentance and faith in King Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, who alone changes wicked hearts. We also pray God would comfort Charlie’s and Iryna’s families as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.

These are sad and dark days for our nation. Yet, as Christians, we do not grieve without hope. In the darkness, the light of King Jesus and his gospel shines even more brightly. He is the only one who can heal the brokenness of our nation and save the lost. We pray that these events make the light of the gospel even clearer, and we pray that we who follow Christ will passionately proclaim the gospel to our communities, our nation, and the ends of the earth until he returns and wipes away every tear from our eyes. That day is coming! Until it does, we will speak courageously and work diligently against the powers of darkness and evil. We have a Great Commission from a Great King. We will faithfully carry out the assignment he has given us until he returns.
