Financial Aid FAQs

Institutional Financial Aid comes directly from Southeastern through gracious donors and endowments. Institutional Aid is tuition-specific and requires you to follow certain Eligibility Standards.

External Financial Aid comes from outside organizations. Each scholarship has its own deadlines, requirements, and limits on what the funds can be used for. We encourage you to check out the additional scholarships and state-specific scholarships pages for a list of potential scholarship opportunities.

Due to the generosity of commissioning churches within the SBC, Southeastern is able to provide a substantial amount of aid to students who are members of SBC-affiliated churches. This amount is equivalent to 50% of what a student would normally pay for tuition and fees and is one of Southeastern’s most significant sources of financial aid. You do not need to complete an application to receive the SBC tuition rate. When you apply for admission to Southeastern, you will indicate your religious affiliation and automatically be eligible at that time. If you are transitioning to a SBC church, please reach out to the Registrar’s Office at [email protected] to learn more about switching from the standard tuition rate to the SBC rate.

Graduate students do not need to complete the FAFSA® since Southeastern does not accept federal loans. There are no federal grant programs that would be applicable for graduate students at Southeastern.

Undergraduate students must complete the FAFSA® and have it sent to Southeastern to qualify for any institutional scholarships or government aid. Our Federal School Code is G02963.

The Institutional Financial Aid application window for the academic year is December 1st-January 31st. The Institutional Financial Aid application window for the spring semester is September 1st-September 30th. Please note that you do not have to be officially accepted to Southeastern to apply for Institutional Financial Aid.

External Scholarships have their own deadlines and requirements. Many deadlines fall between December and April for the upcoming school year. Please be sure to look into each opportunity for the most accurate information.

If you miss the deadline to apply for Institutional Financial Aid, there is not an extension for the application. However, we encourage you to enter your email address at the Institutional Financial Aid Application link. This will allow you to receive an email notifying you of when the application opens again. Lastly, we recommend looking into external scholarship opportunities that may have different application deadlines. Many scholarships are labeled as “anticipated aid” on your account. This is the amount of aid you can expect to receive for the semester pending you are meeting all of the requirements for your award(s). After the last day to drop classes, the Financial Aid Office will review each student’s enrollment status along with other eligibility standards before finalizing awards. Anticipated Aid will be officially released to your account and disbursed after the award confirmation process is complete. Once the aid is officially released, as long as you have a credit, you should be able to access the extra funds.

Upon being accepted to Southeastern, you will receive credentials to log in to your student account. From there, you may go to the finances tab and click “Balance” under the tab. This will show your ledger with your current charges, credits, and anticipated financial aid. If you’ve already received your login information, you can log into your account by going to Southeastern’s Self-Service. If you have not yet registered for classes, you may estimate your cost by visiting the Tuition and Fees page on our website.

Yes, you are able to receive multiple scholarships. However, you should make sure you understand what the funds from each scholarship may be used for. Some scholarships may only be used for tuition, while others may be used for other educational expenses. External scholarships are always applied to your student account first.
